Videoteos Kirkkaan päivän rakennelma muodostuu kahdesta osasta. Ensimmäinen video on tehty vuonna 2020. “Se perustuu päiväkirjamerkintöihin, joita tein ollessani arkeologisesti merkittävällä seudulla Italiassa, Mazzano Romanossa, syys-lokakuussa 2017. Ympäristön inspiroimana mietin silloin paljon hajoamista ja uuden rakentumista.

Minulla on ollut jo pitempään halu tehdä siihen jatko-osa. Toinen osa teoksestani on syntynyt syksyn 2025 aikana ja käsittelee rakentumista, omaa kokemustani taideteoksen syntymisestä. Video alkaa viittauksella englanninkieliseen sanaan serendipity. Sanalla on pitkä historia, mutta lyhyesti sanottuna se tarkoittaa onnekkaita löytöjä. Serendipisyys tarkoittaa hereillä olemista, havaitsemista, sitä, että on alttiina sille, mitä ei ole etsinyt.

Olen syksyn aikana lukenut kirjoituksia amerikkalaisesta taidemaalarista Agnes Martinista (1912–2004) ja amerikkalaisen filosofin John Deweyn (1859–1952) tekstiä, jossa hän pohtii taideteoksen syntymistä kokemuksessa. Työhuonettani olen välillä jakanut Jarin kanssa, ja päädyin pyytämään, taittelisiko hän paperista kukan – se on Agnes Martinille. Johonkin tämän kaiken lomaan kutoutuu serendipisyys.

Eija Hirvonen: The Construction on a Clear Day (2025)

The video work The Construction on a Clear Day consists of two parts. The first video was made in 2020. It is based on diary entries I made while I was in an archaeologically significant region in Italy, the city of Mazzano Romano, in September-October 2017. Inspired by my surroundings, I thought a lot about disintegration and a construction of the new.

I have had the desire to make a sequel to it for a long time. The second part of my work was created during the fall of 2025 and deals with construction, my own experience of the creation of a work of art. The video begins with a reference to the English word serendipity. The word has a long history, but in short, it means lucky discoveries. Serendipity means being awake, noticing, being exposed to what you have not been looking for.

During the autumn I have been reading articles about the American painter Agnes Martin (1912–2004) and the texts of the American philosopher John Dewey (1859–1952), in which he reflects on the emergence of a work of art in experience. I have sometimes shared my studio with Jari and I ended up asking him to fold a flower out of paper – it is for Agnes Martin. Somewhere in all this, serendipity is woven.
