HEREish is a dance-based, comical, slightly awkward, interactive solo performance. The material for the work stems from an exploration of the performers’ personal experiences of social situations, which can reach an amusing level of difficulties, and the ways of dealing with the feelings that arise in them.
HEREish is a work in which the performer uses movement, a soundscape created in the moment, and interaction to construct an entire world. The viewer can easily control the level of participation. The passerby can simply observe the performance for as long as they wish, or actively participate in the dialogue, or both. It invites viewers into lighthearted conversations where the connection is intermittent but never broken. The work oscillates between a strong social presence and contact and a palpable absence at its core, utilizing the entire spectrum. The fumbling search for human connection evokes empathy, confusion, joy, and questions that each viewer answers through their own experiences.
