Maari Bau Mustonen

Visual artist Maarit Bau Mustonen’s seven scores invite city residents and passersby to carry out small performances in urban spaces and nearby nature. Drawing on themes of time and duration, the scores create relationships to environment and embodiment that differ from everyday routines. The scores are presented as posters, one in each of the seven districts of the ARToulu area.

A score is an instruction, a task, or a recipe that, when followed, allows the viewer to realize or take part in an artwork. Bau Mustonen’s text-based scores combine practical guidance with poetic thought and imagination. The work generates gestures, movements, thoughts, and actions that potentially anyone passing by can perform or witness.

The work will be presented in spring 2026 and will remain accessible until the end of the year.

Maari Bau Mustonen is a visual artist and small publisher based in Helsinki. Text and image have accompanied her undertakings since childhood. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Finland in 2015 and has exhibited her works in Finland and abroad for about a decade. In Oulu, her work has previously been shown at the Oulu Art Museum in 2024–2025
