”In and out of cells and organelles
cells signaling to each other
look up, look up,
a prism of prisons hook-up to the main line
the skyline the safety barge of filtering
media; we choose what we conduct,
infiltrate truth through permeable barriers
wake up the maestro in our cell self,
spirit self stands en guard
stand back from yourself
this tissue between regions.”
Janette Ayachi, ‘Where things are when they are not happening’, 2020
The film MEMBRANE is the result of a year long collaboration begun in 2020 between Scottish-Finnish visual artist Anneli Holmstrom, Scottish-Algerian poet Janette Ayachi and Finnish film maker and sound artist Joakim Finholm.
Through the film, the artists have been considering in their respective medias the concept of the semi permeable membrane as a narrative spring board to reflect on issues of the COVID pandemic, social distancing, isolation, transitional spaces, biological worlds and sublimes solitudes. The film is the final fruits of this dialogue; with film script, props and directing by Anneli Holmstrom, audio and poetry work read and written by Janette Ayachi and sound filming and editing by Joakim Finholm.
Script and directing by Anneli Holmstrom, cinematography, editing and sound by Joakim Finholm and poetry by Janette Ayachi. Production support by Svenska Kulturfonden
