Vesitornisinfonia on kokeellisen elokuvan muodossa toteutettu kunnianosoitus suomalaisille vesitorneille ja niihin liittyville muistoille. Nimensä mukaisesti teos nostaa parrasvaloihin suomalaiset vesitornit, sillä ne ovat täkäläisen rakennetun ympäristön todellisia katseenvangitsijoita – surrealistisia kohteita, jotka pomppaavat esiin suomalaisen kirkonkylän perusmaisemassa. Nämä hiljalleen käytöstä poistuvat vesitornit ansaitsevat tulla dokumentoiduiksi myös taiteen keinoin: ne ansaitsevat oman visuaalisen sinfoniansa.
Vesitorneilla ei ole majakkaseuroja, jotka vaalisivat niiden historiaa. Uusia torneja rakennetaan nykyään enää harvoin ja monet nykyisistäkin alkavat tällä hetkellä olla käyttöikänsä loppupäässä. Viime vuosina yksittäiset tornit ovat jopa romahtaneet. Tämän ohella vanhoja vesitorneja on myös alettu yhä enemmän purkaa, sillä niille on ollut hankalaa löytää uusia käyttötapoja. Tämä on sääli, sillä vesitornit ovat tutkitusti tunnerakennuksia ja taajamien symboleja, jotka luovat paikan identiteettiä. Vesitornisinfonia dokumentoi tätä katoavaa ja muuttuvaa arkiympäristöä, mutta samalla se elävöittää arjen visuaalista maisemaa tulkitsemalla sitä radikaalisti uudelleen.
Teos on toteutettu yhteistyössä rovaniemeläisen tuotantoyhtiö Flatlight Creative Housen kanssa. Teoksen toteuttamista ovat tukeneet Audiovisuaalisen kulttuurin edistämiskeskus AVEK, Taiteen edistämiskeskus Taike, Lapin taidetoimikunta ja Jussi Eiramon säätiö.
Teoksen pituus on 20 minuuttia ja se pyörii näyttelytilassa jatkuvalla loopilla.

WATER TOWER SYMPHONY IN GALLERY PIMENTO 27.9–22.10.2023
Water Tower Symphony is a tribute to Finnish water towers and the memories associated with them in the form of an experimental film. As the title suggests, the work gives the spotlight to Finnish water towers, the real eye-catchers of the local constructed environment. These slowly disappearing surreal buildings deserve to be documented through art: they deserve a visual symphony of their own.
The history of water towers is not particularly cherished in Finland. Nowadays new towers are rarely built and many of the current ones are slowly approaching the end of their lifespan. During the past few years, some individual towers have even collapsed. In addition, some old water towers have also been demolished, since it has proven to be difficult to find any kind of new ways to use them. This is a shame, since according to recent studies many water towers have become town symbols that create local identity. Water Tower Symphony documents this kind of everyday environment typical to Finland. At the same time the film also revives the local visual landscape by reinterpreting it in a radical way.
The film has been produced in cooperation with the production company Flatlight Creative House. The production has been supported by The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture AVEK, The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike), The Arts Council of Lapland and Jussi Eiramo Foundation.
The length of the piece is approximately 20 minutes and it’s running on a continuous loop in the exhibition space.
