Introducing the curators of the art area
3.4.2024The International Open Call for ARToulu art area
3.10.2024
The first artworks for ARToulu have been selected. Through the open call we recieved approximately a hundred proposals, of which ten were chosen for further development.
In composing the ensemble of artworks for ARToulu, curators Satu Oksanen, Anna Ruth and Leevi Lehtinen decided on works that represent a diverse array of practices and materials. The curators were particularly inspired by work that invited interaction with the passing public, and with works that could integrate into specific environments. The chosen proposals all held an element of meditative wonder, and invited the viewer to experience the surrounding environment in a holistic way. The environmental impact of the proposals, including durability and aging of the works, were also important aspects taken into consideration. More details on the artworks as well as on the artists involved will be made public as the project continues.
ARToulu is part of the official program of the European capital of culture 2026. The purpose of the European Capital of Culture is to emphasize the richness and diversity of European cultures and to increase the sense of belonging and unity among European citizens. In the fall 2024 ARToulu will announce an international open call, that will complement the ensemble of artworks selected in the first open call.
